What Are IV Infusions? Everything You Need to Know!

IV infusions are all the rage these days. You see celebrities and models posting about their IV therapy at the spa, and it’s no wonder why: it feels amazing. But what is it? How does it work? And is it safe? We’ve got answers for you!

We will cover everything from what IV infusion is, why you should get one, and how it works. If you’re curious about IV infusions or have been considering getting one for yourself, then keep reading!

What Are IV Infusions?

IV infusions are a type of therapy that delivers medications or essential nutrients directly into the bloodstream without having to digest them first. The acronym “IV” stands for intravenous therapy, “intra-” meaning within or inside, and “venous” relating to the veins. So, IV therapy is a method of administering fluids into the body via the blood vessels, and it’s one of the fastest ways possible to deliver medications or essential nutrients to your body.

Why Do IV Infusions Work?

IV infusions are a popular treatment for many ailments and health conditions. But why do they work? Here are some of the reasons why IV infusions are so effective:

They Work Fast

IV infusions are a great option for people who need to get nutrients into their bloodstream quickly. IV infusions go directly into the bloodstream and don’t have to get absorbed through the stomach. This means that it’s more bioavailable – meaning it’s more readily available for use by your body.

They Allow For Higher Doses

In addition to speed, IV therapy also allows for higher doses that can’t be given orally. This is true for medications but also for supplements.

A good example of this is vitamin C. Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that can help with a variety of health conditions and support your immune system.

However, it’s not always easy to get enough from food alone or from a regular multivitamin. This is where IV therapy comes in.

IV therapy allows for much higher doses of vitamin C than you’d get orally or through other modes of administration, such as pills or gummies. This can result in faster absorption into the bloodstream and help with certain conditions like colds and flu faster than other methods.

How To Use IV Infusions

IV therapy is a great way to give your body the extra boost it needs to get healthy. The process is fairly simple, and I like to use IV drips on my patients in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle. Here’s how it works!

We recommend our patients start by eating clean, doing the work, and ensuring they get enough rest. Once they’ve gotten their bodies into the right place, we help them take things up another notch by giving them supplements orally and then adding IV therapy on top of that. This helps jumpstart things and makes sure the body can take what it needs as fast as it needs it!

How Often Do You Need IV Infusions

If you’re considering IVs, it’s important to understand how often you’ll need them. The answer is different for everyone, but it’s important to remember that IV drips aren’t quick fixes. They’re meant to be used as part of an overall lifestyle change, and you’ll need to continue eating clean and working out regularly for them to be effective.

Some individuals need IVs for a few weeks or months before gradually decreasing the frequency or discontinuing it entirely. Remember that the cell absorbs nutrients from the IV. So, when you begin your IV therapy, you should focus on your diet and exercise, in addition to increasing nutrition through food, to ensure that your cells are constantly loaded with nutrients. Some patients improve gradually over time, and we then transition them to less frequent IVs and oral supplements. If their health declines, they may have to revert to the frequent IV.

However, some patients cannot function without it. When there is too much time between, they perceive an instant deterioration. This may be related to heredity, or occasionally people’s illnesses are so advanced that they need it to retain the health they’ve achieved, and when they quit, they don’t fare well. As a result, it is quite patient-specific.

What Goes Into An IV Infusion?

Every IV has a base fluid like normal saline or sterile water, or dextrose, and then certain supplements are added to the base depending on the need. These supplements can include vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, and more.

Here at The Knew Method, we also use glutathione in some of our IVS. Glutathione is magic. Our body creates it and pumps it into our mitochondria. It works at the cellular level to prevent inflammation and other cell damage that can make you sick. It is essential for the immune system to function properly. However, it decreases as we age and when we are sick, so we put it in the IV.

But there are also some specialized IVs that have specific targets, including:

NAD+

NAD+ is a coenzyme that helps to convert energy from food into energy that cells can use. It functions mainly in the mitochondria of our cells. However, it declines with age and illness.

NAD+ supports healing, enhances performance and brain function, and reduces brain fog and chronic issues. It is also used for addiction cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

Plaquex

Plaquex is a combination of essential phospholipids that can be added to an IV. It is designed to treat patients with atherosclerosis, a condition where plaque builds up inside your arteries. It also reduces cholesterol in the blood.

Alpha lipoic acid

Alpha lipoic acid is a powerful antioxidant required for cell metabolism and cellular energy production. It also helps protect the brain from oxidative damage and is used to treat neuropathy, a condition that causes pain and numbness in the feet and hands. Alpha lipoic acid can also help reduce symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.

Bottom Line

There’s no doubt about it: intravenous infusions work. They’re fast, they’re effective, and they can deliver high doses of medication or supplements directly into the bloodstream—without having to get through all of your stomach, intestines, and liver first.

However, we recommend using them in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle. Hi! I’m Dr. E, The NP with a PHD. Several years ago, my wife was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and the only options given to us were heavy duty medications.

We KNEW there had to be a better way. After a long search, we discovered functional medicine.

With functional medicine we found alternative ways we were able to manage her disease and get her back to feeling like her old self.

We discovered that this way of life not only helps people with various issues, including autoimmune, chronic issues and “I-don’t-feel-good-itis.”

Functional medicine drastically changed our lives and using it I developed The KNEW Method to help others who are suffering or not feeling optimal.

Let’s work together to get you to feeling like your old self again.

Have You Been Told “It’s your age” or “It’s your hormones?”
